The Sacrament of Confirmation

confirmation symbolAlong with Baptism and the Eucharist, Confirmation is a sacrament of initiation, initiation into the full life of the Catholic Church. By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized, are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit, they are true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. The Catholic catechism states:

“It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost".

The Confirmation program is a special time for the candidates to explore, deepen and strengthen their faith. The candidates are themselves choosing their Catholic faith as a way of life.

Our Parish Confirmation is a two-year program for eighth grade students. The following are some criteria to help you determine whether your child should prepare for Confirmation:

• Willingness to participate in the preparation program at this time.
• Regular participation in Sunday Eucharist.
• Regular participation in Religious Education
• Willingness to pray, reflect on God's presence in his/her life.
• Willingness to serve those in need.
