Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

You can participate in this ministry if you are a lay person 16 years of age or older and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation.  You have to undergo spiritual, liturgical and pastoral formation and practical training before you are appointed as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.  Each appointment lasts for three years.
You are to strive to be worthy of the great office cultivating devotion to the Holy Eucharist and being a good example for reverence for the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
You agree to serve the Church as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion during Mass and/or with those who are sick and homebound.

In doing so, you take your place in a long line of disciples who enjoyed the company of Jesus, listened to His word, wondered about His commands, cared for His people and did what He asked.
The ministry puts you at the center of the Church’s life.  The celebration of the Eucharist of the Lord’s Day is our most important activity.

All ministers of Holy Communion should show their greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire and their manner in which they handle the Body and Blood of Christ.
It is a great honor and blessing to share in this ministry.
